New Poll

Given how politically charged the phrase "support the troops" is, I was thinking that I've never seen a poll where the question was stated as simply as possible.

So, do you support the troops? Answer on the sidebar.

Maya Angelou is my new favorite living author!!!!

Congratulations, Maya Angelou! After putting the vote up to public, you've won the contest to be my new favorite living author!

-------------------------------

Now that Kurt Vonnegut is dead, who should Justin's new favorite living author be?

Maya Angelou 28.6%
Khaled Hosseini 14.3%
Tom Robbins 14.3%
Toni Morrison 14.3%
Gabriel Garcia Marquez 14.3%
Dave Eggers 14.3%

-------------------------------

At least you managed to choose a favorite author for me that I've read something by and liked.

A total of seven people voted, spliting the vote among six candidates... Do the math, that means Maya Angelou got two votes and won.

New poll on the way.

Chicago Spire

It's official, the city of Chicago is building a penis taller than the Sears Tower.

Is this supposed to represent all the huge dicks that live in Chicago? (Sorry, I'm a Cardinals fan, had to get a jab in there)

And to be fair, it doesn't REALLY look like a giant penis... it looks a little more like a giant dildo.

George Lucas on Spiderman 3

Need some more evidence than my opinion that Spiderman 3 was good?

Here's the evidence... George Lucas DIDN'T like it.

Lucas told me he has seen all the summer movies since his company, Industrial Light and Magic, does most of the special effects. The only one they didn't work on was "Spider-Man 3." What did he think of it?

"It's silly. It's a silly movie," he said. "There just isn't much there. Once you take it all apart, there's not much story, is there?"

Honestly, if I made a movie, and George Lucas didn't like it, I'd wear it as a badge of honor. Who the hell is George Lucas, these days, to call a script "silly?" Does he not remember the crapfest of a prequel trilogy he strung together? Jar Jar Binks in The Phantom Menace? The horrendous love story of Attack of the Clones? The unsatisfying resolution of Revenge of the Sith? Any of this ring a bell?

As much as I really, really, really, liked Spiderman 3, I'm not going to pretend it was the greatest script on the planet... but it's certainly better than anything Lucas has done since The Empire Strikes Back.

Spiderman 3

Just got back from Spiderman 3.

I'm not going to beat around the bush. It was awesome.

I'm a little surprised at all the mediocre reviews it's getting... I really thought this was the best of the series so far. Most intersting story and by far the best villians. Sandman was fantastic.

What stands out about Spiderman, compared to nearly all other comic books/comic movies, is that the villians aren't simply evil... there's always something more going on. This was shown particularly well in this movie. The movie actually became a fairly effective tale about the effects of the choices the villians, and of course Spiderman himself, make.

Not that I've seen many movies yet this year, but this is by far the most satisfying so far.
