Nancy Pelosi

Glenn Greenwald pretty much sums up my opinion on Nancy.

I think there's a good chance she's going to surprise people and be quite effective as Speaker of the House.

The Washington Post has this to say...

House Democrats elected Rep. Steny H. Hoyer (Md.) the new majority leader yesterday over strong opposition from Speaker-elect Nancy Pelosi (Calif.), exposing a deep political divide even before the party takes control.

The Washington Post is full of crap, quite frankly. First of all, despite any differences, Nancy didn't have "strong opposition" to Hoyer. She supported the other guy because he was loyal to her. That's all. Just because her guy didn't get elected doesn't take any power away from her. She's still gets to be the freakin' Speaker. And she got elected unamiously.

The verdict is out on how she'll do overall, but I think there's alot of reason for hope. People are going to look back on this little majority leader mini-controversy very soon and see how little it meant.

NFL Prediction recap

We're a little past halfway through the season, so let's see how my September 7 preseason predicitions are shaping up.

> NFC West: 1. Seattle, 2. St. Louis, 3. Arizona, 4. San Francisco

Switch Arizona and San Fran, and I'd stick with this prediction

> NFC South: 1. Carolina, 2. New Orleans, 3. Tampa Bay, 4. Atlanta

Tampa has almost clinched last place at this point. The rest of the division is all above .500... at this point, I think New Orleans is the best of the bunch.

> NFC North: 1. Chicago, 2. Detroit, 3. Minnesota, 4. Green Bay

Looks like I was right about Chicago... Not so much about Detroit being #2. Chicago will be the only playoff team in this division.

> NFC East: 1. New York Giants, 2. Washington, 3. Dallas, 4. Philadelphia

Just as in the North, my prediction for #1 is looking good while my prediction for #2 does not.

> NFC Playoffs: Seattle, Carolina, Chicago and New York win the divisions, Washington and Dallas get the Wild Cards

I'm sticking with all my division winners except Carolina, I'll now predict New Orleans there. I'll still go with Carolina for a Wild Card spot, and I'll give the other to... oh, let's say Philadelphia. I picked the Redskins as a Wild Card? Really?

> AFC West: 1. Denver, 2. Kansas City, 3. San Diego, 4. Oakland

Denver's looking good, might still win the division, but I'm leaning toward San Diego now. And KC isn't out of it either. My last place Raiders prediction looks like a lock.

> AFC South: 1. Indianapolis, 2. Jacksonville, 3. Tennessee, 4. Houston

Looking good... I'm not changing anything here.

> AFC North: 1. Cincinnati, 2. Pittsburgh, 3. Baltimore, 4. Cleveland

Ouch. My predicted Super Bowl Champions, the Bengals, are 4-5. I still think they could make a run for a Wild Card spot, but their defense is horendous. Meanwhile, Baltimore looks surprisingly good, and unless there's an epic collapse, they'll win the division. I have nothing to add regarding how bad Pittsburgh is that hasn't been said by every commentator in America.

> AFC East: 1. New England, 2. Miami, 3. Buffalo, 4. New York Jets

Miami is all of a sudden looking pretty good and I think they'll end up #2. Flip Buffalo and the Jets, and I'll stick with my predictions here.

> AFC Playoffs: Denver, Indianapolis, Cincinnati and New England win the divisions, Pittsburgh and Miami get the Wild Cards

Oooh. Indy and New England are my only division champions I'm sticking with. San Diego and Baltimore will be the other two. Denver will get a Wild Card. Any number of teams could get the other spot... but it's probably not going to be Cincinnati, Pittsburgh or Miami. I'll go with.... Jacksonville.

> Super Bowl: New York Giants vs. Cincinnati Bengals

Yeah... not so much. Giants have a shot but the Bears look pretty unstoppable. The AFC could be a shootout... Indy, Baltimore, Denver, San Diego, and New England are all legitimate contendors. I'm going with the Colts. Peyton's going to get there eventually.

> NFL Champions: The Cincinnati Bengals

More like.... The Chicago Bears.
