Odd fact of the day

The guy who co-wrote Unchained Melody (covered by the Righteous Brothers) and the guy who wrote Why Does the Sun Shine (covered by They Might Be Giants)?

Same guy.

Lost (not Idol this time. I swear)

There was a commercial for the Hanso Foundation during Lost tonight. The Hanso Foundation website might provide some clues as to what's going on with Lost.

Lost results

Spoilers for Lost ahead..... proceed with caution......

I was wrong. Ana "Paris" Lucia was voted off. As was Libby "Libby" Libby. But why did Simon "Michael" Cowell do it?

In other movie news...

The Nightmare Before Christmas is being rereleased.... in 3D!

Be Kind Rewind

Sounds like it could be an interesting movie.

The national anthem in Spanish

Unlike President Bush, I have no problem with singing the national anthem in Spanish.

Wait, what's that? Bush used to sing the anthem in Spanish himself? And Jon Secada sang it in Spanish at Bush's first inauguration?

I don't like agreeing with Bush. Maybe I should rethink my position.

Tonight's Idol, um, I mean, Lost, blogging

So here are my thoughts on tonight's episode of American Idol. Wait, did I say American Idol? I meant, um, Lost.

I thought John (Elliott) Locke was excellent tonight. Both of his performances were great. I just wish he'd get over that urge to keep pushing the numbers in the hatch.

Dr. Jack (Taylor) Sheppard was very strong in his second performance, but his first was a little lacking. And what's going on with Jack and Kate?

James Sawyer (Chris) Ford had a great first performance, but his second wasn't as good. And anyway, you can't trust him. He's always double-crossing someone.

Claire (Paris) Littleton was strong all night. But I hope her baby is safe.

That leaves Sun (Katherine) Kwon, who was the weakest of the night to me. I think she might be voted off the island. But that's ok, it will give her more time to spend with her own miracle baby.

Stephen Colbert and Jack Bauer

In case you haven't seen it yet, Salon has the video of Colbert's performance at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner. Seriously. Watch it. You might have read about it, but reading about it doesn't do it justice. Colbert was on fire, and Bush had the most pissed off look on his face that you'll ever see, and Laura refuses to shake Colbert's hand as he's leaving.

While we're on the topic of Salon videos, watch this Japanese commercial for something called Calorie mate, featuring Kiefer Sutherland, in Jack Bauer mode. Truly bizarre.

Save Darfur, Ride a Cowboy

Here's Big and Rich. Yes, I posted this picture separately because I wanted to make the Save Darfur, Ride a Cowboy joke. But seriously, I never thought much of these guys, but they were pretty entertaining. And not exactly the guys you'd expect to see at a Save Darfur rally. So kudos, Big and Rich.

Save Darfur Rally

So I finally went to one of those big rallies on the mall in D.C. today. It was, of course, the rally to stop the genocide in Darfur.

We were right up front, and my roommate got some AMAZING pictures, so I thought I'd post some photos here.

First, here's a picture of my roommate Wil and I...

The Great Hope of the Democratic Party

That guy who used to be on the Facts of Life, and his dad. Clooney's dad was quite a speaker, one of the best of the day.

No contest for the tallest speaker of the day. Here's Sudanese former NBA star Manute Bol...

The Rev. Al....

Here's famed author and Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel...

This is pretty self explanitory, and one of the best pictures of the bunch...

Russell Simmons

Nancy Pelosi and a group of Congressmen

And finally, a guy who agrees with Kanye West.
