Still pretty busy at work and this will be another relatively short post. The storm that has engulfed me for the last week or so is beginning to cool down though, and I might blog more later.
The one topic that has bugged me the most lately is the whole liquid on airplanes thing.... Due to airline incomptenance, my girlfriend's bags and my bags were lost on the flight back from Chicago two weekends ago. But, airline incompetance aside, the whole thing wouldn't have happened had we not had to check our bags in the first place because of the stupid new rules about liquids that will never accomplish a damn thing.
Neil Gaiman (who is a comic book creator and author, but I know him more because he's mentioned in multiple decade-old Tori Amos songs) talks about the stupidity of the liquid rules
on his blog.
Toothpaste is out.
Hairgel is out.
"Topical or rash creams" are out.
Lip gels are out.
Shampoos and conditioners are out.
Personal lubricants are... just fine.
It's more than a little disturbing that KY jelly is one of the few liquids allowed on a plane.
More importantly, there's a growing consensus among chemists that
binary liquid explosives aren't feasible. So my bags were lost because of a stupid reaction to stupid terrorists with a stupid plan that never would have worked.
Awesome.
