It's Springtime for Mel Brooks in Sweden

From Wikipedia's entry on the original Prodcuers movie:

At its theatrical release in Sweden, the film was given the Swedish title Producenterna (The Producers), but it was not a success then. After it was re-released under the title Det våras för Hitler (Springtime for Hitler), it did score with the Swedish audience. Because of this, all of Mel Brooks' films were given a title with Det våras för... (Springtime for...) in Sweden, up until Life Stinks (e.g. Blazing Saddles being called Det våras för sheriffen (Springtime for the Sheriff) and Spaceballs beging called Det våras för rymden (Springtime for Space)). After this, Mel Brooks himself has complained at the Swedish habit of always calling his films something with Springtime for... and so, his latest two films have been called Robin Hood: Karlar i trikåer (Robin Hood: Men in Tights) and Dracula: Död men lycklig (Dracula: Dead but Happy) respectively (even though the latter is called Det våras för Dracula on the Swedish DVD cover).

Rob Corddry Hates You

On the Daily Show the other night, Rob Corddry had a sketch in which he showed the world what it was like, as a racist, to be discrimintated against.

At the end of the sketch, a list scrolled by very quickly with everyone that Rob hates. In the list, there were jokes for people who were pausing the list to read it with their tivo.

Here's the full list.

After reading through

Black
Guatemalan
Jewish
Roman Catholic
Irish
Haitian

etc....

you get to

As you might guess from my post yesterday, I find this last one quite funny.

Bush and the Leak

I don't have much to add to this story, but I figured I should at least comment. So Bush is a lying ass. We already knew that. And anyone who is surprised that he knew about leaks has their head in the sand.

I hate to be the eternal pessimist, but nothing sticks to this president, and like all other stories, this one will go away. Seriously, if he won't even be impeached for wiretapping American citizens without a warrant, the Plame case is pretty much irrelevant.

More Wisconsin Hockey

Last week I mentioned that the Wisconsin women had won the national championship and that the men had advanced to the Frozen Four. Last night the men advanced to the finals, against Boston College tomorrow. This is exciting for a UW alum and lifelong college hockey fan like me.

OK, so I was in Madison for two years as a grad student and never techincally "went" to a game or "watched" a game on tv or "listened" to a game on the radio or "followed" the team in the newspaper. Nor had I ever followed them, or any other team, before that, nor have I followed them since, until the last two weeks. Nor have I really followed the team in the last two weeks. But hey, my friend Tom called last night, and I turned on the game with 49 seconds left. That counts for something, right?

Republican bashing

First, Dara enlists the help of John Stewart to continue my McCain bashing.

Next, Dan finds some coincidences regarding Dick Cheney and the Washington Nationals.

Well done.

If those numbers look familiar to you, you've probably been watching Lost. If they're familiar to you for some other reason, you're probably PART of the mystery of Lost, and you don't even know it. In the last couple months I've finally gotten into it. I didn't watch season one at all, but I've been sucked into season two for a while now. I've been trying to read old episode summaries to fill in the vital pieces of the puzzle that I've missed.

Last night's episope was a real mind trip. What the hell is going on? Is Hurley really on the island? Is Dave real? Is Libby real? Is everyone in the entire Island in the mental institution? I just don't know. What's up with the numbers?

Yesterday, I found the website 4815162342.com. (Please note, for some reason I was able to read messages yesterday without registering, but today I had to register. At least it's free.) It's full of all kinds of theories about what's going on. It's worth a visit if you're into the theories. A couple stand out to me as being plausible, if not probable. Here's your chance to stop reading if you don't want to know...........

Remember when the clock counted down all the way to zero before Locke reset it a few weeks ago and the clock showed hieroglyphics instead of numbers? Apparently the hieroglyphics translate as "die." For more, read this thread.

This one's from another blog, but it appears the continued appearance of Connect Four at the mental institution in Hurley flashbacks is no coincidence. This post was written well before last night's episode. Last night, Hurley's friend was staring at the Connect Four board and repeating the numbers over and over, which I think gives this theory more ground to stand on.

Idol results

I was just mocked via email for my Idol obsession, but I'm going forward with this post anyway. I can take whatever you all want to dish out. Anyway, I just tuned in for a couple minutes to see who got eliminated last night while I was watching Lost. Honest.

Mandisa is gone. My once favorite contestant, although she had been slipping. I correctly predicted that Mandisa would be in the bottom 3 for the first time, but I predicted Ace would be the one eliminated. He wasn't even in the bottom three. And I listed Elliott as among the safest, but he was in the bottom three. So not a great week of predictions for me.

I was disappointed to see Elliott in the bottom 3, I thought he gave maybe the best performance of the week.

At this point, I guess my favorite is still Paris, but I don't really have a particularly strong opinion. Chris is fine too. Same for Taylor, same for Elliott. Kellie is slipping in my opinion, but I don't see her leaving any time soon. Katherine is the wild card to me. Ace and Bucky's days are numbered.

Idol Blogging

I'll keep the Idol blogging short this week, because last night was a pretty boring show, with no incredible performances, and no unspeakably horrible ones either.

Best performances: Elliott and Chris.
Biggest disappointment: Taylor. I think that was more a visual thing though, I think it would have sounded ok on a record.

Predictions:

Safest: Elliott, Chris, Kellie and Taylor (despite the performance, he has a huge fanbase)

Could be in bottom three: Bucky, Paris.

Most likely bottom three: Mandisa, Ace and Katherine.

Going home: Ace.

John McCain watch

Wow, and the Republicans have the nerve to call Democrats elitist? John McCain is living in a different universe.

United 93

It doesn't so much bother me that they're making a movie about United Flight 93, the plane that went down in Pennsylvania on 9/11. What bothers me is that, from the trailer, the movie looks boring and poorly acted. A good movie could be made about 9/11, and maybe I'll be wrong. But it seems to me the wrong way to pay tribute to the victims of 9/11 is to make a half-hearted movie.

Today's equally lame joke

Yesterday, I gave you this doozy.

Today's joke: Boy, those Wild Card races are looking really tight!

Morning Speed Blogging

Congrats to the Florida Gators! And to Inbal and Dara in particular. Florida winning a BASKETBALL championship? Next thing you know Duke will be hoisting this.

Item-

DeLay's resigning from Congress. As much as I'm happy to see the fucker go, it will now be harder for Democrats to win that seat.

Baseball! The Cardinals looked good yesterday! Two home runs from Pujols, which was nice to see. A grand slam from Rolen, which was nicer to see, and it will be huge if he's back to his old self. And 4 hits, including 2 doubles and a triple, from Aaron Miles! I don't have much confidence, but hopefully he can keep it up. It will be nice if the Cards have a solid option at second base.

I make a joke like this almost every year, but....

Jim Thome is on pace to hit 162 homers this year!

The Simpsons Movie Teaser Trailer!

I saw this during The Simpsons last night. I heard rumors that the movie would actually be coming out next year, and now I know it's true. Talk about long overdue...

Not that I know they're going to be able to do much on the big screen that they haven't done on TV, but it's still cool that it's going to finally happen. For what it's worth, I liked the teaser trailer. It's so simple, yet effective, and it has to be the least expensive looking trailer I've seen in years.

Thoughts on the weekend Box Office

Here's the top ten movies this weekend.

Ice Age 2 made $70.5 million? Damn, that's alot of money for early April.

And Basic Instinct 2 could only pull off $3.2 million? Yeah, that movie looked horrible. Like, we'll be talking about this for a long time when we discuss "worst movies ever" horrible. But I thought at least a few more people would have gone to see Sharon Stone's crotch again.

Another "this should surprise no one" post

Prayer apparently doesn't help people recover from surgery.
