Great Moments In Sports Punditry

Alex Rodriguez's hot start reminds me of the dumb-ass-ishness of all the sportscasters who suggested the Yankees trade A-Rod during a mini slump last July.

Can we find some kids, like the ones they use on The Daily Show's "Great Moments is Punditry", to relive this classic moment from Baseball Tonight?

[Steve] Phillips was at it again. It only takes a blink of an eye, and the letter "A" rolling out of someone's mouth, to set him off.

"Ultimately, they are going to have to trade him and they can trade him if the time is right," Phillips said. "It's become the thing to do in New York to boo Alex Rodriguez. ... When that happens in New York, it doesn't stop. Now we see it impacting his performance. I don't see how he gets out of this rut. The Yankees have to move him and cut their losses now because it can get to the point where they can't move him."

Phillips was so persuasive, his colleague Harold Reynolds agreed A-Rod should be moved. John Kruk dissented. Reynolds and Kruk argued. This was wonderful TV inspired by Phillips.

Harold Reynolds was, of course, fired two days later. He SHOULD have been fired for his stupidity, but instead he was fired due to a sexual harrassment scandal. Either way, good riddance.

Steve Phillips, on the other hand, has his Baseball Tonight gig to this day.

I, of course, predicted at the beginning of this season that A-Rod would have an MVP season.

Tying (so far) the home run record for April and batting .400 is a pretty good start.

Was the Carvel Ice Cream Guy Murdered?

When Tom Carvel died 17 years, it was determined to be a heart attack.

But now, his niece thinks he was murdered.

I'm not saying he wasn't murdered, I obviously have not been privy to the evidence one way or the other, but is it really a stretch to think an 84 year old man who was associated with ice cream his whole life might have heart problems?

I Write Like a Girl

Well, only about a third of the time.

According to this, which Dara posted about based on a link she got from my fiancee, 5 of my most recent 14 blog entries were probably written by a girl.

Fortunately, I'm comfortable enough with my masculinity to tell you this.

Update: The site thinks this entry was written by a woman too. Since I mentioned my fiancee, does it think I'm a lesbian?

Update 2: I now see on the site the following.

NOTE: The genie works best on texts of more than 500 words.

Indeed, the Genie has recognized all of the longer posts I've tried as being written by a man.
