Tuesday Morning Politics

**** My own Senator, Mr. George Allen, has been going around calling an Indian staffer for his opponent, Jim Webb, a monkey. Ok, it's not as cut and dry as I just put it, and whether it's an intentional racist slur is up for debate, but it's looking likely. On the Mel Gibson scale of 1 to 10, I'd say this is at least a 7 or 8.

**** And back to our good friend Joe Lieberman. He claims he's an "independent Democrat," but at this point, I don't see any evidence that he's a Democrat at all anymore. MyDD notes that the Republican National Committee and White House are refusing to endorse the Republican nominee in Connecticut, and Joe seems to have the support of people like Karl Rove and Bill Kristol. Kos has a good rundown of things Joe should be doing if he's a Democrat, including campaigning for other Democrats who need it and fighting back against Republicans using his campaign as a talking point.

Most importantly, Joe needs to pledge, right now, that he will support Harry Reid as majority leader if re-elected. If he won't do that, I now have to assume he wants the Senate to remain out of Democratic hands.
