I return with... a sports post.

I'm kind of surprise that, to the best of my knowledge, I've never linked to Fire Joe Morgan on my blog.

While I wholly support the idea of ESPN firing Joe Morgan, one of the most frequently wrong, lazy and uninspiring sports announcers (and that's saying something)....

The blog is really about much more than Joe Morgan. It's about bad commentary/insight from announcers, sportswriters, players, managers, etc...

Today there's a post about Davey Lopes, who complains about "clogging the bases." As opposed to, you know, nice, clean, unclogged bases with no runners on them and no potential scoring opportunities.

Too many teams are sitting back waiting for the 3-run homer. You've got a bunch of guys that are slow afoot, go one base at a time, clog up the bases, and that's pretty much what this game has become. A nonathletic-type game. We've got too many DHs.

Memo to Davey Lopes... Getting guys on base and keeping them on base is a GOOD THING. When homers and other base hits/extra base hits come, it's better to have runners on base than empty bases. Giving the other team free outs is quite often a BAD THING. "Manufacturing runs" frequently means "manufacturing outs." Sacrifices are WAY overused. Stolen bases are also WAY overused. Bunts are WAY overused. All these things, except for successful stolen bases, result in more outs, which result in the opposing team having a better shot at getting out of the inning.

Ok, I'll get off my soapbox now.
