Red Auerbach

I'm still riding high on the Cardinals World Series victory, but I have to acknowledge some sadder news in the sports world today....

Red Auerbach has passed away.

I'm not really an NBA fan, but to the extent that I am, I'm a Celtics fan. I have no ties to Boston, it's pretty much leftover fanhood from the Larry Bird-Kevin McHale-Robert Parrish days in the 80s.

Sports is pretty much all about history for me, so even though I wasn't alive to ever see him coach a game, Auerbach was the most famous, most successful coach of my favorite team... and really, the most notable coach in NBA history. And he lived in Washington, so he's a local guy too.

Rest in peace, Mr. Auerbach.
